Notes
I found this movie entertaining. In typical Speilberg fashion it's a movie that plays heavily into feeling kid-ish but at the same time trying to be mature. I don't know how I feel about it. I feel like you should embrace one side or the other. But it's Speilberg and that's his style. 😊 The storyline is a typical dystopian future, where a mega-corporation is bleeding the population dry and abusing their power. The little people then have to stand up and fight for their freedom. I liked the overall message of the movie. Reality is real, and being inside a game all the time (while "freeing" in many ways) is just hiding from true real life. I wish the "gamer" angle was a little less animated feeling, but I guess that's part of the style of it. The problem with relying so heavily on the gaming effects is that it doesn't hold up well over time as well as true visual effects, but I guess I'm really just splitting hairs. Last gripe is the love story between Wade and Samantha. It never really evolved. It just sort of happened. She's literally the first girl he's met, and she's insecure because she has a birth mark on her face. But they never really learn much about each other, but magically they just love each other. 🤷🏻♂️
