Notes
I'm not sure how I feel about this series. I think I would've liked it a lot more if I hadn't read the books at all. But since I did read the books this series was just "ok". They added a few things that I feel like took away from the believability and lore of the series. The first part was the affluence of black market relics. I'm sure they thought this would help Juliette and others figure out the mysteries of the silos more easily, but in the books it's literally been 100's of years and many, many generations. Why would these relics continue to exist for that length of time without others figuring it out? And why would the founders have allowed these relics to exist? They would've purged them along with everything else to ensure their perfect future. Also, they have cameras "everywhere" in this show. Juliette hadn't ever known you could record video from the look on her face when she saw the deceased George Wilkins shows up in a video file. Yet when Bernard shows her this secret surveillance room she doesn't act astounded, but rather just admits, "We never had a chance, did we?" The other problem is the fact that everyone and their brother seems to have access to firearms. They all have guns. This wasn't something the founders would have allowed. The only person who even carried a gun was the sheriff in the book, and that was more for show. No one else had them. Why would they? They would only create additional conflicts in such enclosed spaces. Anyway, the show was interesting and fine, but I would've preferred that they let the show be less action-y, and more drama. One review I read said that they should've compressed the story down from 10 episodes to 4 and then expanded more into the first book. I agree with that. I think that would've helped the pacing and the reveals. Plus we could've gotten to more of the fun stuff with Juliette working through the broken state of Silo 17. We'll see how Season 2 goes when it's released.
