Notes
This book was my favorite in the trilogy. The pacing was well done, and it hooked me more and more with each chapter I completed. I loved the characters and the mystery behind each and every one. The ending was super climactic. You could make the argument that it was "too easy." But really we're talking from a reference point of a sovereign good God vs lesser evil beings. How could it even be a fair fight for even a moment? Even despite that Lewis does a good job of making the tension feel real. George Orwell wrote this in his review of the book: "When one is told that God and the Devil are in conflict, one always knows which side is going to win. The whole drama of the struggle against evil lies in the fact that one does not have supernatural aid." But I think that's just the beauty and point of Christianity and why Lewis includes it in this trilogy. If you truly believe in a higher good, then what power does the enemy ever truly have against you? None. We know who's going to win. I loved that about this book.
